The art and tradition of writing Pysanky, Ukrainian Easter Eggs dates back to the circa before Christ. A time-honoured tradition by many Ukrainians and Slavic cultures around the world. Symbols, meanings, and representation of the Ukrainian culture. For many, the tradition is believed to ward off evil. The more pysanky written, the less evil will prevail. It is also a special gift at Easter to present a pysanka to the ones you love as a symbol of hope, rebirth and unity.

The tradition has become a desired form of art for non-Ukrainian people internationally and as a full-time hobby. It is a love of the art which teaches

the culture's richness and diversity to people who become familiar with Ukrainian Pysanky.

Owner: As a first-generation Canadian-Ukrainian and pysanky writer, I desired to have a structure in Ukrainian culture and communities. The inspiration developed to reach out to pysanky writers and egg artists, forming great connections to amazing artistic people, both local and internationally. Discussions on trials, techniques and helpful tips for writing on eggshells. New friendships, mentors, and more...

In 2018, a new venture began blowing out eggs. At the start, it was turkey eggs. From naturally spotted eggshells to removing the spots and having the smoothest, dye-accepting canvases possible. This was only the beginning...

In the following months, investing many dedicated hours was set to finding more egg canvases. Finding eggs in the four-season climates of North America is a great challenge and the eggs are not readily available all year round. After extensive searching, the resources broadened, and egg choices of all sizes were becoming available. Again, many dedicated hours, cleaning, blowing out yolks, and making them available to the egg art communities both near and far.

It was the trail of learning and searching that led to the realization this would be an advantage for pysanky writers and egg artists to have a variety of blown-out eggshells in Canada, and welcome our neighbouring American fellow egg artists.

At Egg Shells To Dye For, to the present day, approximately 6,500+ eggs per year are cleaned, blown out, and made available.

Today, as proprietor of 'Egg Shells To Dye For' and first generation Canadian-Ukrainian, I am honoured and proud to be part of an artistic, meaningful, rooted, cultural establishment.
