Ostrich Eggs S - M -  L 
Small -  6"+  Shape: completely round or slightly oval. (15.24cm)+
Medium -  7-8"+  Oval curvature. (17.78cm.)+
Large - 8"+  Oval. (20.32cm.)+
*Update: Holes are now 1/2”. The previous supplier is no longer available for us. The holes have been pre-drilled. I am sorry for any disappointment. 
Ostrich eggshells are thick and strong.  
Projects: Dying - pysanky/batik, carving, etching, painting, decoupage, beads, jewellery, lamps, and various crafts.
Can be used in its natural state.
Optional preparations
: To remove sheen, the appearance of mild crater bumps, or achieve a white eggshell; PLUG HOLE.  Substances vary on timing. Please read and choose your etching substance. Etching the surface in a 10% vinegar
soak for approx., 5-10 minutes, then scrub with a bristle brush. Rinse in clean water. This process may need to be repeated as required. Regular 5% vinegar will need to soak longer. With 10 -15 minute intervals. Scrub with a bristle brush in-between until your desired surface is achieved. Rinse in clean water. 'Safe Etch' is stronger and takes less time - 1-8 minutes. Remove from 'Safe Etch'
 after 4 minutes SCRUB with a mild bristle brush rinse in clean water and repeat. After each etching, rinse with clean water. 
Sanding (wet) 
for a smoother appearance is an alternative option. For dyes, many artists prefer to wet sand Ostrich eggs. By following either preparation, the sheen is less or none, the absorption of dyes is greater and the pores are less visible.

    • Each item has been weighed and calculated with shipping material included. Fact: A small blown-out egg may weigh very little, but the packing material and the box make up the difference. EXAMPLE; An ostrich egg without packing material weighs 0.325+ kg or 0.72+ LBS. (please see proof in the INTRODUCTION box at the top of the store page).

    Precaution:  wear protective gear - respirator mask, eye goggles, rubber gloves & apron when sanding, cutting, carving, scratching, drilling holes, or etching eggshells.  Lack of safety may result in bodily injuries or respiratory illness.      

  • What you need to know...

    All eggshells are candled against cracks and other defects. Guaranteed structurally sound.

    Measured from centre top to centre bottom on a curve. LARGER eggs: One small drain hole 1/4 - 1/2" or smaller on the centre widest end (bottom).

    • Drilled hole, centred, on the wide end bottom (unless specified otherwise), blown out, washed (no harsh chemicals) & rinsed inside and outside of the shell.  Eggshells are air-dried. The cleaning process will not affect dyes or other materials. If stains or shadows are present on white egg surfaces, they will disappear during dyes and etching. Optional: Plug the drain hole and soak in vinegar for 1 minute. A light scrub and rinse. (Maran eggs can not be scrubbed).
    • Remove all wraps after receiving your package and inspect all the eggshells.  
    • PLEASE BE SURE TO ALLOW 24 -48 hours in house temperature before use.
